At the ragged edge of the whitetail's North American northern range, Jim Shockey and his band of hunting brothers brave ridiculous elements. Snowstorms and sub-zero temperatures conspire to test every hunter's mettle. Sleep deprivation after weeks on stand without sight of a shooter buck challenge every hunter's dedication. But just when you think Team Shockey can be pushed no further and is reaching its breaking point, it happens. Out steps an absolute stunner of a Saskatchewan buck ... a buck that robs a hunter's last frozen breath ...
Take Jim's mid-November, peak of the rut, Bowtech buck ... a 150-plus inch brute that presented Jim a 22-yard broadside shot, after appearing only at night on the trusty Stealth Cam's. Or daughter Eva's tall-tined monster buck that she scouted, patterned and tagged during a wind-whipped snowstorm; or son Branlin's old warrior, massive-antlered blackpowder buck ... his biggest whitetail ever. And then cameraman Todd Bissenden finds a buck that he believes will score close to net Boone and Crockett typical. He uses all the tools to his advantage ... Stealth Cam photos, Buckscore scoring software, perfect stand placement with his Primos ground blind, and then films himself downing the monster buck with his Thompson/Center muzzleloader, after most of the other hunters have already tagged out.
Weeks after the season opens, sometimes a month or more, our band of hunting brothers stay in the game until it happens. All to share the experience with you. Come along, to Shockey's Whitetail Edge. 66 Minutes.
